Using this calculator is not an exact science but it is a big step in roughly determining your household's greenhouse gas emissions. By going through these simple steps you can get an idea of how your emissions compare to an average Australian household.
Thankyou! You have completed our Carbon Emissions Calculator and the results are in!
Your total annual carbon emissions are:

Give your mates a lift. Car pooling with colleagues or neighbours saves fuel and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. More people together in a car means fewer cars on the road!
Don't stand-by, switch off. Turning appliances off at the power point, when you're not using them can result in significant cost and energy savings.
Change the lights. Energy efficient fluorescent based globes use about one-quarter of the energy of old style incandescent globes and last for about 16,000 hours (compared to 1000 hours for incandescent).
The average Australian household produces about 15 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year.
If you leave you computer and monitor on all the time it is equivalent to the amount greenhouse gas emissions produced by driving an average car over 3500 kilometres.
Each tonne of paper waste that ends up in landfill requires one cubic metre of space, and produces 2.5 tonnes of greenhouse gases.
The factors for this calculator are based on the National Greenhouse Accounts (NGA) Factors developed by the Australian Government's Department of Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculator of the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts as per the following link:
